Goal: $10,000
Dear Friends & Family of The SPACE,
Thanks to your kindness and generosity, we have done wonderful work over the last four+ years in making a wide variety of arts and education programs accessible to low-income residents for self-discovery, empowerment, and leadership development. Some highlights:
Over 11,000 creative experiences since opening in 2018 through hands-on free art programs and workshops, story times, comic book days, yoga and meditation classes, kite flies, dance programs, education classes, and game nights -- and so much more.
Distributed over 9,000 free books through our Free Community Book Shelves and thousands of clothing items and shoes through our Free Clothes Rack.
Distributed hundreds of free art kits during the pandemic to support arts engagement and creativity in isolation.
Provided social resources through our partnerships with the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System and the Department of Social Services.
Please take a look at our new Annual Report 2021-2022, which offers a detailed review of our programs, services, and operations.
We need your help this spring to expand our programs and services! Here are some of the exciting things in the works for 2023:
Upper SPACE expansion: We are currently (yes, now!) moving into the huge former Big Lots store space. We are developing free music and arts exploration programs to include keyboard, guitar, and drumming classes; Capoeira martial arts; and creating artist incubator spaces. Student volunteers from the Anne Arundel School of Architecture Design will be offering a design plan as a spring project. There is so much we can do with this new space! We even have a pickleball court.
Youth camp program: We have partnered with The Playtime Project, a local non-profit with a mission to cultivate resilience in children experiencing family housing insecurity by providing and expanding access to transformative play experiences to provide spring and summer camp programs at Beltway Plaza.
Full STEAM Ahead: Technology Fair hosted by Deloitte and The SPACE geared towards enhancing the knowledge and skillsets of students in our local community with technology-related tools and activities.
Revolutionary Self Care: A workshop program scheduled for June through December that uses yoga and meditation, and therapeutic art classes to address barriers to diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind and body wellness as a foundation for self-healing.
Workshops with professional artists: Structured workshops with professional artists for printmaking, jewelry making, illustration, fine arts, and more.
Mental first aid training: We'd like to offer a Mental First Aid training certification program for community leaders.
